AgTech Education

Ag-Farm-Lettuce

Agriculture in Maui County today involves much more than planting and harvesting. The Women in Technology project, in partnership with the Maui County Farm Bureau, offers a series of highly- touted workshops to educate teachers, as well as students, on the many ways science and technology is integrated throughout our “new” agriculture.

Ag-teacher-wrkspWIT’s Educate the Educators workshops comprise the major thrust of the program.  Designed to give teachers a broader understanding of the importance, implications, career opportunities, and economic potential of agriculture on Maui, the course also provides teachers with proven methods to convey that knowledge back in the classroom.

Curriculum covers:

  • The Latest Advancements in Agriculture
  • 21st Century Agricultural Careers in Hawaii
  • The Hawaii Career Pathway system
  • Lesson development to communicate agriculture information to students in the classroom

As part of the Educate the Educators project, WIT also presents a science and technology display at the annual Maui County Agricultural Festival.  The booth provided samples of the hands-on activities teachers participated in during the workshops, in addition to creating awareness about possible ag career paths for students and parents.
